This series consists of registers of mortgage deeds and the amounts due on them to the Branch Bank at Mobile. Included are the date of the mortgage, the name(s) of the owners of the mortgage, a description of the deed (description of the mortgaged property, which includes slaves and land), the amount owed to the Branch Bank, and statements concerning payments and settlements in court. Also included are newspaper clippings describing the sale of land and cases in chancery, and page numbers to the Branch Bank's real estate books and to court books. The register from 1857 consists of only one page, and concerns land owned in Fla. and Tex. as reported by commissioner H. B. Holcombe.
